East Hampton Village

A Dayton Lane resident was back to his old habits of calling 911 without an emergency. Police stopped at his house at about 3 a.m. on April 26, and he appeared to be intoxicated but was not a threat to himself or anyone else, police said in a report. He was advised to call 911 only in an emergency.

A man on Toilsome Lane called police on Friday at about 1:55 a.m. when he awoke from a deep sleep and thought he heard people in his driveway. No people were found on the property, only several deer.

Detectives are investigating a domestic incident in which a 28-year-old woman who has an order of protection in place allegedly received 21 calls from the man the order was placed against. The woman went to police with her attorney Friday evening.

Montauk

A Farmingdale man spoke to police Friday after he tried to rent a house at 41-99 South Forrest Street for the night. Joseph Christopher Hunt had seen a rental ad on Craigslist on April 12 for a four-bedroom, three-bathroom house with a heated pool and a hot tub. He was told to send half of the total rental fee of $1,300 and a security deposit of $150 through MoneyGram to an attorney in Arlington, Tex. Mr. Hunt sent $650 through a MoneyGram he purchased at a Walmart in Farmingdale. The person who listed the ad then asked for the remainder, but Mr. Hunt refused based on their prior agreement. The suspect then stopped all correspondence, and the Craigslist ad was taken down. Mr. Hunt arrived in Montauk on Friday morning to use the house and discovered there wasn’t one at that address.

Springs

John M. Castoro, who lives on Driftwood Lane, called police on April 14 after he noticed that a suspicious charge had been made to his checking account. Despite having never been to the Marshalls department store in New Hyde Park, he was charged $142.74 for a purchase made there. His bank advised him to call the police. Precisely when the charge had been made was not clear in the police report.
