Amagansett

Overnight on Aug. 19, someone walked onto the 17th green of the East Hampton Golf Club and pulled out the flag and ball cup. The manager of the club, Thomas Barnard, also told police that youths have been bike-riding on the course after closing hours all summer long, and asked for additional police patrols in the area.

East Hampton Village

A man with residences in Manhattan and East Hampton was issued a summons on the morning of Aug. 22 for allegedly walking two dogs off the leash in an area of Georgica Beach where dogs are required to be on the leash. When questioned, Randy Slifka told an officer that they were service dogs. Mr. Slifka was asked to provide documentation of that fact. When he could not provide any, the summons was issued, police said.

An engraved white-gold men’s watch, estimated to be worth several thousand dollars, was found on Maidstone Avenue on Aug. 22 by a resident of that street who turned it over to the police.

Also on Aug. 22, a Springs man working out for an hour at the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter returned to his unsecured locker to find $400 missing from his wallet.

Montauk

Andrew Clerkson of Montauk rode his bronze-and-copper-colored Giant Escape 2 bicycle to the parking lot at Ditch Plain Beach and left it while he took a 20-minute walk on the beach on the morning of Aug. 22. When he returned, the bicycle was gone. Its serial number is C2AH7689. Police have asked that anyone with information about its location call them at 631-537-7575.

Two bicycles were stolen from the carport of a South Etna residence early Friday morning. Diane MacDonald told police one was a beach cruiser and the other a mountain bike. She did not offer any additional information.

Kevin Maguire, who lives on South Fulton Street, received an Apple iPhone 6S in the mail on Aug. 18. The problem was that he had not ordered it. He learned that someone had used his Social Security number to open a Sprint cellphone account the day before. Police advised Mr. Maguire to monitor his various accounts and report any suspicious activity.

A wallet belonging to a Montauk man fell out of his shorts pocket on the afternoon of Aug. 20 at 7-Eleven. Phillip Schnell told police it held several of his credit cards. Someone was seen on a store surveillance video picking up the wallet, getting into a car, and leaving the parking lot. Police were able to identify the gray 2009 Dodge S.U.V. and are investigating.

Three young men shoplifted a six-pack of Montauk Driftwood Ale last Thursday evening from 7-Eleven.

A former employee of the Surf Lodge who had worked there for the past eight years was told not to return this year. When he showed up last Thursday night, Julien Bizalion, the manager of the Edgemere Street nightclub and motel, called the police. It wasn’t clear from the heavily redacted incident report what the former employee had done. Mr. Bizalion did not want to press charges, but did want the situation documented.

Sag Harbor

Police received a call reporting a suspicious man taking photographs of various boats docked at the marina next to Long Wharf on Aug. 24. Police questioned the man, Michael Heller, who told them he was trying to get a contrast photo of the boats. The investigation was closed.

Waverly Atkins, a driver for Midway Taxi, told police early Sunday morning that three passengers bound for Noyac had gotten out of his taxi without paying and jumped into a second taxi, which drove off. Police located the second taxi and stopped it to question the three passengers. They said they were going to an A.T.M. to get money to pay Mr. Atkins. An officer followed them to the machine and then back to Mr. Atkins’s cab. He was paid in full.

Springs

A Seventh Street resident told police on Aug. 22 that a civil dispute she is having with the former owner of two puppies that had been given to her had crossed over into harassment. Lisa Eggert said the former owner had confronted her outside the Veterinary Clinic of East Hampton on Goodfriend Drive, demanding the return of the dogs. Ms. Eggert said she did not want to press charges, but wanted the former owner to be warned to proceed with the matter through the court system.

Long Days on the Fire Line In Orange County

East Hampton and Amagansett firefighters volunteered to head north last week to help fight a 5,000-acre wildfire in Orange County, N.Y., not once but twice, battling unfamiliar terrain to do so. “They fight fires completely differently than we do when we have a brush fire,” the Amagansett chief said.
