Amagansett

Four custom-made scallop dredges and their frames were stolen out of William P. Carman’s boat, which was in his front yard on Abraham’s Path between 5 p.m. on Nov. 6 and 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 7. All told the cost to replace them is $550.

East Hampton

A duck blind belonging to Ethan S. King and Kelly King was stolen from Northwest Harbor sometime between Oct. 25 and Nov. 11. They told police it would have taken someone approximately two hours to remove the structure, which they said was worth about $500. They had a valid permit for the duck blind.

East Hampton Village

A Gingerbread Lane resident reported on Nov. 10 that a Mongoose bicycle had been found a week earlier. It was left on a bike rack for a week to see if anyone would claim it. When no one did, it was handed over to police.

Several pieces of fencing, worth a total of $2,400, were taken from a Pantigo Road property on the night of Nov. 10. A contractor had placed white vinyl fencing, valued at $220 apiece, under a tarp. A vinyl gate worth $195, eight vinyl posts worth $35 each, and nine vinyl post caps worth $13 apiece were also stolen. After the incident was reported on the morning of Nov. 11, the investigation was turned over to the detective squad.

A motorist said a lawn mower sent a rock flying that broke the windshield of her 2001 Ford as she was traveling on Dunemere Lane on Nov. 10 at 4:45 p.m. Police told the driver that it was a civil matter.

A village code summons was issued to S&P Carting after a Dumpster was found blocking the sidewalk in front of a house on Dayton Lane on Friday at 4:45 p.m.

Police found a parked 2013 Land Rover blocking a driveway on Main Street and issued a ticket to its owner on Saturday around 7 p.m.

The owner of a 1999 Honda Accord called police after he returned to the car in the long-term parking lot on Lumber Lane on Saturday at about 9:30 p.m. and found all four of the tires deflated. It appeared that a “pen-like object” had been used to stab them. The estimated damage was $460.

Montauk

Anne-Laure Lyon said that $7,290 worth of clothing and accessories was stolen from her house on the Glen sometime between March and October. She had stored a Ralph Lauren women’s coat, a small black Prada clutch, a black Bottega Veneta clutch, a long black Ralph Lauren suede coat, and a long black Monte Claire down-filled coat in a closet in the den. She filed a report on Nov. 9 for insurance purposes.

Sag Harbor

A 44-year-old Hampton Bays man who was highly intoxicated was arrested on a charge of second-degree harassment, a violation, after police were called to the Corner Bar because of a fight on Friday at about 11:30 p.m. The man allegedly shoved another man and threatened to punch him in the head.

An anonymous caller told police someone was selling rifles at a yard sale on Hampton Street Friday morning. Police looked into it and found pellet guns.

Police were called about a suspicious van in front of Pierson High School on Saturday around 5:15 p.m. Police found a blue Ford parked on Jermain Avenue. The driver said he was doing the sound system for a play at the school.

Springs

Sharon Lester told police a small porcelain picture of her son, Henry Lester IV, on his headstone at Green River Cemetery was vandalized sometime between Oct. 24 and Nov. 2. Police looked around other gravesites and did not find any other damage. An officer was unable to determine if the damage was intentional, according to a report, which was filed on Nov. 10. The repair was estimated at $200.

 

Long Days on the Fire Line In Orange County

East Hampton and Amagansett firefighters volunteered to head north last week to help fight a 5,000-acre wildfire in Orange County, N.Y., not once but twice, battling unfamiliar terrain to do so. “They fight fires completely differently than we do when we have a brush fire,” the Amagansett chief said.

Awards for Good Policing in Handgun Scuffle

“It could have gone worse. We’re lucky that I have officers here that weren’t shot,” said Police Chief Jeff Erickson at Friday’s East Hampton Village Board meeting. Chief Erickson was recognizing Sgt. Wayne Gauger and Officers John Clark and Robbie Greene for a traffic stop on Aug. 31 that turned into a scuffle and the eventual confiscation of an illegal gun.

A Three Mile Harbor Drive resident reported an online dating scam on the afternoon of Nov. 16. Somehow, said the 80-year-old man, a person on the dating platform had gotten his phone number and demanded $2,000 from him, threatening to tell his family he was using the site if he did not comply. Police told the man to block the number.

A 2-year-old was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital following a head-on collision Saturday afternoon on State Route 27 near Upland Road in Montauk.
