East Hampton

An Old Orchard Lane couple discovered on Thanksgiving morning that their silver flatware, which they valued at $20,000, was missing. Kara and Brent Johnston told police they had not used the set, with 16 place-settings, since Thanksgiving 2014. The silver had reportedly been stored in a small mahogany chest in the front dining room. The couple provided police with a list of those with access to the house and detectives are investigating.

Corinne Marley told police Saturday that she had been the victim of identity theft, in separate incidents involving two American Express cards. It appeared that a woman using the name Yolanda Boutcher had hacked into her email account as well, and used it to ask her attorney for money.

Montauk

A black mink coat made by Peter Duffy Furs was reported stolen from the back seat of a 2010 Land Rover on Thanksgiving weekend. Amy Anci told police she had unpacked the car but left the coat in it. The car sat outside her Gannet Drive house for most of the weekend, she said, except for a short shopping trip to the I.G.A. in preparation for the holiday. She valued the coat at $4,000.

A Montauk man was taken to Southampton Hospital after a fight at Liar’s Saloon on Nov. 14. Jose Garcia-Benitez, 38, suffered cuts above his right eye and lower left lip. His adversary fled before police arrived.

Sag Harbor

A 2005 gray Mercedes Benz was reported missing on Friday. R.B. Allardice III told police he had parked it in the gravel lot on Bridge Street at 6:45 that morning, leaving the keys in the car.

Two propane gas tanks were stolen from a Division Street yard sometime last week. Diedre Hogan reported the theft Saturday, telling police her contractor said he had last seen the tanks on Nov. 30.

A Glover Street woman locked herself out of her house on Monday. Police checked the windows and doors and confirmed that Paula Wagner had indeed locked every possible entrance. Ms. Wagner then called a locksmith.

George Gilmer of Bridge Street reported on Saturday that his bank had alerted him that four forged checks in his name, totaling $745, had been passed.

On Dec. 1, a passer-by found a green Fendi wallet on Main Street and turned it in to police. The next day, its owner, Nicole Koenigsberger, claimed it.

Springs

A 200-gallon propane tank, along with the concrete pad it sat on, was reported stolen the day before Thanksgiving from a Lincoln Avenue backyard. Kevin Miller told police he initially thought that Suburban Propane Company had taken it away, because he hadn’t purchased gas from them for several years. However, the company told him that was not the case. Mr. Miller said the tank was empty when it disappeared.

The windshield of Carol Vargas’s 2009 Honda was damaged by a thrown object last Thursday morning as she was driving on Springs-Fireplace Road. She told police she couldn’t tell where the object came from because she was concentrating on keeping the car under control. The windshield will cost $275 to replace.

Wainscott

Police were called to a Wainscott Northwest Road residence housing the developmentally disabled on Nov. 29, after an altercation between two residents, who were arguing over use of the main television set. No one was injured, and the two agreed to keep away from each other.

Volunteers Answer the Call of Duty

“No one wants to get out of bed, having just climbed in. And it’s a really cold night, and it’s windy, and everything else — but you know that everyone else will be feeling the same, and so you go anyway. Everyone jumps in their cars and drives there, and then you deal with whatever is going on.”
