Police Seek Driver Who Fled Crash

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 07:11

Sag Harbor police are seeking the public’s help in finding a man who fled the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Madison Street on Monday.

Police had received a call about an erratic driver on Madison Street. Chief Austin McGuire responded, only to find that there had already been an accident: A white 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck had struck a vehicle driven by a Hampton Bays woman. The pickup’s driver ran off.

A Southampton man, Kevin King, a passenger in the pickup, who moved the truck after the crash, was questioned about the identity of the missing driver. Mr. King told the chief the man was a friend of his named Chris, but that he did not know his last name.

Police searched Mr. King and allegedly found a glass pipe with crack cocaine residue in it. He was charged with misdemeanor drug possession. Because his license has been suspended many times and he had moved the truck, he was additional charged with unlicensed driving. He was held overnight and posted $100 bail the next morning.

Anyone with information about the missing driver has been asked to call 631-725-0247.

They Know When You've Been Bad or Good

East Hampton Village is now home to 14 Flock license plate reader surveillance cameras, which amounts to one for every 108 full-time residents, if you go by the 2020 census data. They're heralded by local police for aiding in enforcement and investigations, but they use a technology that has proven controversial nationally with those concerned about civil liberties.
