Three Charged With D.W.I.

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:33

East Hampton Town police arrested three women on drunken-driving charges in the last week.

Mohna M. Hoppe, 64, of East Hampton was driving east on Cedar Street, near Cedar Court, on Saturday at about 10:10 p.m. when she was stopped. Police said an officer noticed that her 2005 Jeep failed to maintain its lane of travel and crossed over the white fog line. She appeared intoxicated and performed poorly on field sobriety tests, the report said. Justice Rana arraigned Ms. Hoppe on a misdemeanor driving-while-intoxicated charge on Sunday, and released her on her own recognizance.

Yvette D. DeForest, 35, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., was also arrested and charged with D.W.I. after police said they saw her 2009 Subaru fail to stop at a stop sign on South Edison Street in Montauk while making a right turn onto Montauk Highway on Sept. 18 at about 12:25 a.m.

The police report said she then moved unsafely from her lane, crossing the white fog line, driving on the shoulder, and making an improper left turn. Justice Steven Tekulsky arraigned her later that day and released her on $500 bail.

Mary E. Lapenna-Lee, 62, of East Hampton was charged with drunken driving earlier this month. She was behind the wheel of her 2015 Subaru and, police said, did not stop at a stop sign on Abraham’s Path on Sept. 10 at about 9:30 p.m. She then made an improper left turn onto Town Lane, according to the police report, and was pulled over. Justice Rana released her on her own recognizance.

The turnover was to occur on Jan. 1, but it has now been delayed for at least a month.
