Allegedly Drinking While Working

Wed, 11/25/2020 - 09:26

On Saturday evening, after David Weinzweig, 42, of East Hampton, driving a 2017 Hyundai, rear-ended Remigio Sinchi's 2019 Toyota on Main Street near Woods Lane in East Hampton Village, police charged him with driving while intoxicated, saying that he had failed roadside sobriety tests. Village police also reported that he admitted to drinking alcohol "while working."

Because Mr. Weinzweig has a previous drinking and driving conviction within the last 10 years, his car was impounded. The conviction also made the D.W.I. charge a felony, aggravated D.W.I. He was served a misdemeanor charge as well for not having installed a required Interlock device, which measures the driver's blood-alcohol level before  the car will start. He was arraigned the next morning in East Hampton Town Justice Court.

Thomas Heinz, 53, of Montauk was charged there on Nov. 15 at 11 p.m. with misdemeanor drunken driving. He was headed east near Second House Road when, according to town police, he rear-ended another car and fled the scene of the minor accident. Police spotted him not far away, with telltale heavy damage to the front fender of his 2020 Jeep. He performed poorly on roadside tests and was held overnight for a morning arraignment before Justice Steven Tekulsky.
