One D.W.I. Arrest in East Hampton

Wed, 12/09/2020 - 16:50

A single motorist was charged with drunken driving in East Hampton Town last week.

The man, Rigoberto Ruiz-Coz of Springs, faces a count of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony, as well. Town police said his license had been revoked following another "alcohol-related" offense, apparently a less serious one, as the new D.W.I. charge was classified as a misdemeanor.

The 38-year-old, who lives in Springs, was pulled over at 1 a.m. on Springs-Fireplace Road there, near Spinner Lane, after being clocked at 53 miles per hour in a 30 m.p.h. zone. He did poorly on roadside tests, police said, admitted to drinking, and consented to take a breath test.

Mr. Ruiz-Coz was held overnight and appeared in Justice Court the next morning before Justice Steven Tekulsky.
