East Hampton

On Jan, 18, Tamara Malawitz reported having received a number of threatening messages on her Instagram account since November. She said an unknown person, using six different accounts, has been posting threatening comments under her photos and sending her direct messages. Police advised her to make her account private. 

A 125-pound steel anvil was stolen from a backyard on Hand’s Creek Road sometime between Nov. 29 and Jan. 15. Wayne B. Hermann said the anvil had been on his property for over 30 years. He does not know who would have removed it. He said it was worth about $400.

East Hampton Village

While on Newtown Lane last Thursday afternoon, an unidentified person received a call from “an older-sounding man.” An argument ensued, the person told police, and the caller used vulgar language before hanging up the phone.

Police received word at about 4 p.m. on Friday that youths had been seen on the train tracks. Village officers could not find anyone at the crossings on Accabonac Road or North Main Street. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said it had been determined the youths were about three miles east of the train station, and the village officers passed the information on to town police.

Noyac

Edward Debiasi received a call last Thursday from a man who identified himself as Patrick Ross, an attorney, who that said Mr. Debiasi’s grandson had been in an accident in Manhasset and was under arrest. In order to be released, he needed $12,000. Mr. Debiasi said he knew it was a scam and hung up. Just to be sure, he told police, he called his grandson, who denied any police involvement.
