East Hampton

Steven Dayan of Surrey Lane called police at about 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 29 after hearing loud noises outside his house. He looked out and saw, on Mane Lane, what appeared to be a car that had just been in an accident. Officers searched the neighborhood without finding either cars or people, and then went to Mr. Dayan’s property, where they found broken eggshells on the ground by the front entrance and egg yolk on the side of the house and on a window. Mr. Dayan said it would cost about $250 to repaint the damaged areas.

A package was stolen from the front porch of a house in the Oakview Highway mobile home park on Dec. 17. Junetta McCoy Douglas told police the package, which a friend had left on her porch around 2 p.m., contained a gift of a child’s winter hat, gloves, and a notebook. When she got home at 3, it was gone.

East Hampton Village

At around 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day, the driver of a 2017 Nissan got into an argument with four passengers, all of whom, he told police, were intoxicated and trying to start a fight, as he was taking them to the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett. The driver pulled over in the parking lot of the Zokkon restaurant on Montauk Highway and was able to get them out of his car. He then drove to a nearby Exxon gas station and called police. Officers checked the area for the passengers, but they could not be found.

Police were called to Dayton Lane at about 10:15 a.m. last Thursday to check on a man who was asleep in the back of a Chevrolet Suburban with New Jersey plates. The man turned out to be a 42-year-old limo driver waiting to pick up a customer on that street. The officer checked on his license, found it had been suspended four times, and warned him he would be arrested if he got behind the wheel. The man said he would have his boss pick him up.

A business on Gingerbread Lane received what police called “a fraudulent fax” last Thursday, involving a check supposedly issued from its account. Detectives are investigating.

Sag Harbor

On New Year’s Eve, just before midnight, a Southampton woman reported her Hermès Birkin bag missing from her table at the American Hotel, where she said she had left it for less than a minute. It was valued at $18,000.

Four bottles of various medications were taken from the kitchen counter of an apartment on Jesse Halsey Lane on Jan. 1, apparently by someone who went into the apartment between 2 and 2:30 p.m. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.

A 68-year-old man was seen in the 7-Eleven parking lot at about 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 28, urinating into a jar. Police said Louis J. Pagnanella of the Bronx was urinating in plain view, “causing an offensive condition.” He was charged with disorderly conduct, a violation, and released to await arraignment in Sag Harbor Justice Court on Feb. 14.

Springs

When Dmitry G. Kobzev returned to his Walton Street house on Christmas Day, he found the double doors on the back deck ajar, though there was no damage to the doors and the deadbolt was still in the locked position. Nothing much appeared amiss, he told police, except for a bathroom mat in the master bathroom and the fact that the thermostat had been turned up to 70 degrees. All the other doors and windows were secure.

Attempted Swatting in Sag Harbor

Sag Harbor Village police have received several reports of “swatting” calls, falsely reporting an emergency, from Main Street businesses recently, three involving Sag Pizza and another, last week, involving Apple Bank.
