Other Drivers Called Police

A 31-year-old man was arrested on a drunken-driving charge on Saturday in Water Mill. Other motorists called Southampton Town police about a “reckless, erratic” driver on Montauk Highway around 10 p.m. Police found a white pickup truck matching the description provided, crossing back and forth over the double yellow lines.   

The driver, Ovando Chilelperez of Southampton, appeared intoxicated, police said. He was so unsteady on his feet, according to the report, that he had to place his hand on the back of his truck to maintain his balance. He performed poorly on all field sobriety tests.

Mr. Chilelperez was charged with misdemeanor aggravated driving while intoxicated, as his blood alcohol level was above .18, and several traffic infractions. He was held overnight for arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court.

A man caused a disturbance at the 7-Eleven in Montauk around 4 a.m. on Monday, an employee reported to police, saying that the man “partially ate” two Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches before putting them back on the counter and refusing to pay.
