Three Face D.W.I. Charges

Thu, 07/22/2021 - 08:26

Two men, one from Southampton and the other from Springs, were charged by East Hampton Town police last week with misdemeanor drunken driving.

Victor Nievessaca, 29, of Hampton Road in Southampton was observed at around 10 p.m. on July 11, police said, parked partially off the roadway in a wooded area at the intersection of Soak Hides Road and Springy Banks Road in East Hampton. Police said he was in the driver's seat of his 2003 Lexus with the keys in the ignition, appeared intoxicated, and failed roadside sobriety tests. He was held overnight for a morning appearance before East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky.

The other man, Wilmer Farez of Church Lane, was charged on Friday afternoon after his 2006 pickup truck veered off Stephen Hand's Path near Bull Path in East Hampton and hit a tree. The pickup rolled over onto its passenger side, but Mr. Farez was not hurt. He was unsteady on his feet for other reasons, police concluded, and performed poorly on the field test. He too was arraigned by Justice Tekulsky.

In Sag Harbor, village police charged Marcell Degenaar, 23, of Pompano Beach, Fla., with drunken driving. Shortly after midnight on July 14, police said an officer spotted his 2007 Toyota on Route 114 drifting into the opposite lane then rolling past a stop sign near Fahys Road on North Haven. Mr. Degenaar was also charged with unlicensed driving, a misdemeanor.

Long Days on the Fire Line In Orange County

East Hampton and Amagansett firefighters volunteered to head north last week to help fight a 5,000-acre wildfire in Orange County, N.Y., not once but twice, battling unfamiliar terrain to do so. “They fight fires completely differently than we do when we have a brush fire,” the Amagansett chief said.
