Sun, 10/23/2022 - 11:44

A Friday night motorcycle crash on Bluff Road in Amagansett sent one person to the hospital and another to court.

Robert Chase Plachy of Amagansett, 31, was eastbound on a Honda motorcycle, near the East Hampton Town Marine Museum, when he lost control of the vehicle at about 10:45 p.m.

East Hampton Town police said in a statement that Mr. Plachy's passenger, Nicole Greenwood of California, 35, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered "serious physical injuries."

Ms. Greenwood was taken by a county helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, which listed her in critical condition as of Friday night. No further information was available as of press time.

Mr. Plachy, whom police charged with driving while intoxicated, sustained minor injuries. He was arraigned on Saturday morning before East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky, who released him on his own recognizance to await a future court date.

Neighbors reported that police crime tape blocking nearby Atlantic Avenue was still there at of 7:30 a.m. Saturday as the investigation continued.
