Fatigue and Distractions

Thu, 03/24/2022 - 10:06

Very early on Saturday morning, Eric Tudor, 53, was heading west on Route 27 in Montauk near the scenic overlook when he fell asleep. His 2010 Toyota pickup truck crossed the oncoming lane and hit a guard rail just west of Beech Street, according to East Hampton Town police. Mr. Tudor hurt his elbow and hand, and was in enough pain that an ambulance was called to take him to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. The truck was towed by Marshall and Sons.

Later that morning, responding to a call reporting an erratic driver near Georgica Road in East Hampton, police found the Jeep in question and spoke to the driver. He said he “kept getting distracted” by his “infotainment screen” and promised to pay better attention to the road.

A security guard at Pierson High School in Sag Harbor reported a “suspicious male” wearing a face mask and “riding a bicycle in circles” near the school gym. The young man subsequently told police he was waiting for his friends to get out of school, and said he was wearing a mask “because it’s cold outside today.”
