Fearing a Mess, She Hit Tree

Wed, 05/25/2022 - 18:45

Last Thursday evening, Elaine Christensen of East Hampton, 78, had picked up takeout for dinner, placed it on the passenger seat of her 2006 Chevy Suburban, and begun driving home. She was on Accabonac Road, just south of Stony Hill Road in Amagansett, when the package started sliding off the seat. Fearing a mess, she told police, she reached over to right it, but in so doing lost control of the car, which ran into a tree. Ms. Christensen complained of minor injuries to her chest, and an ambulance was called to transport her to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for treatment. The car was towed by Balcuns.

At about 10:45 p.m. Friday, Patty Martz of Montauk, 65, was driving her 2009 Honda SUV on Tuthill Road, a very narrow road, near Duryea’s. She was just rounding the curve at the top of the hill, when, she told town police, her wedge-style flip-flops became lodged between the brake and the accelerator. The car veered, and struck several rocks by the road edge. Ms. Martz sustained a minor bruise on her forehead but declined medical attention.

It Was S.U.V. on S.U.V.

On June 23, a Subaru S.U.V. rear-ended a Toyota S.U.V. at Carl Fisher Plaza in Montauk. That evening, two other S.U.V.s collided in Wainscott and had to be towed away. And more news of the roads.

Driver Leaves Path of Destruction at Montauk Art Show

Early Sunday morning, it looked as if a small tornado had torn through the Montauk Green and the Montauk Artists Association Art Show. Instead, East Hampton Town police say the destruction — which wiped out the inventory of some participating artists — was caused by a drunken driver.
