Man Found Dead in Vehicle at Bridgehampton Commons

Southampton Town police on Thursday afternoon received a call about a man who was seen slumped over the steering wheel of a white van in the parking lot of the Bridgehampton Commons shopping center.

In a release issued Thursday, police said the man, Wilson Plaza of East Hampton, 47, was dead when officers arrived. Detectives said his death "appears non-criminal at this time."

The initial call, for a welfare check, came in at 1:19 p.m. The county medical examiner is to determine Mr. Plaza's cause of death.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the matter to contact them at 631-702-2230.

A dog had been barking on and off in a fenced-in backyard for four days, a Springs-Fireplace Road neighbor reported on the night of Oct.15, adding that the house appeared to be empty and abandoned. Police went to the property and found a large black-and-white husky, “whimpering and shivering.”
