Robin Murphy was elected Dec. 12 to the office of fire commissioner in the Bridgehampton Fire District, succeeding Bruce Dombkowski, who chose not to run for re-election.
Ms. Murphy becomes just the second woman ever elected fire commissioner in the Bridgehampton Fire District, following in the footsteps of Elizabeth Kotz, who is still a sitting commissioner and who was elected in 2020. Ms. Murphy received 122 votes; her opponent, Zach Broadmeadow, received 19 votes.
“I am very much looking forward to joining a great board,” she said by phone this week. “I’m looking forward to serving the taxpayers and being fiscally responsible, while also making sure that the members of the department have everything that they need.”
A ballot proposition to boost Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) benefits for volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians who have retired from active service passed overwhelmingly, with 135 “yes” to 5 “no” votes. Beginning on Jan. 1, the maximum monthly LOSAP benefit accrual — which is seen as a recruitment and retention tool within such volunteer agencies — will increase from $20 to $30 per year of “service credit” that each volunteer completes, to be received after the firefighter turns 65.
