East Hampton Village

A Lee Avenue man called police on the afternoon of Oct. 9 to say that a stranger had "run across his yard"; he could not say in what direction. The property is fenced, he said, and the only way in is by a code. Police searched for the man seen running, but did not find him.

Police went to CVS Sunday night after a shopper claimed to have found no one available to help and requested a "well-being check of the employees." There was at least one employee there when officers arrived, who said he'd been "in the back, working."

Montauk

On the afternoon of Oct. 8, a man dropped off trash at the recycling center without a sticker and did not pay a $20 fee, an employee told police. Officers found the vehicle in question, which they said did have a permit, parked on West Lake Drive, but were unable to contact its owner.

Sag Harbor

Police gave an intoxicated man a ride home to East Hampton last Thursday morning after a caller found him lying down on Hampton Street.

That evening, a young woman told police that a "tall man with red shoes" had followed her car from the Gulf station to Cluckman's, where she ran in seeking shelter. Her mother eventually picked her up at the restaurant.

A Jermain Avenue woman reported her cats missing on Friday night, and went knocking on neighborhood doors for clues. Her ex-boyfriend answered at one of the doors, and she told police she thinks the cats could be in his house.

Springs

A Waters Edge couple called police on the afternoon of Oct. 7 after noticing that "someone had slept in the beds downstairs" while they were on vacation. They couple ended the interview after suddenly recalling that an acquaintance had stayed at the house while they were away.
