East Hampton Village

On Nov. 25, after a manager at Riverhead Building Supply asked a man who had taken several items from the shelves to put them back, the man became angry. There was a heated verbal exchange, and police were called. When they arrived, the man said he was buying supplies for a construction job and the manager had been “disrespectful.” He was asked to leave the store and not return for the rest of the day.

Later that morning, a man reported a bicycle stolen from near the train station, saying that he’d seen someone ride away on it. Police found that person, who provided them with a photo of the bicycle, proving that he was its owner.

That evening, a caller reported a man “trying to give candy out of his trunk to kids” near the duck pond at the Nature Trail. Police spoke with the man, who said he keeps snacks in his car because he works for a family with children. While cleaning out the car, he said, he saw a child and thought it would be nice to offer him a snack. Police determined that he was “not attempting to lure anyone near his vehicle.”

Sag Harbor

Police went to the American Hotel at noon on Nov. 25 following a request for a welfare check on an intoxicated man who’d been “wandering around.” He was gone when an officer arrived.

A man returned to his car Saturday night after seeing a movie at the Sag Harbor Cinema and found that someone had thrown ice cream on the windshield. He wanted to pursue charges, and police looked through security footage, but were unable to identify the culprit.
