Threatening Bitcoin Emails

Thu, 09/19/2024 - 12:06

Two local women received threatening emails from an unknown sender on the afternoon of Sept. 4, with photos of their homes attached, demanding that $2,000 be sent to a Bitcoin code.

The email to Susan Pashman of Locust Drive in Springs threatened to use her “personal information” against her if she did not send the cryptocurrency. No money was taken from her bank accounts, and police documented the incident.

On Cattle Walk in Northwest Harbor, Cristina Steele received a similar email about half an hour later. Ms. Steele did not send the scammers money either. In both cases, police filed reports of fourth-degree grand larceny.
