A Dog Was in the Truck

Thu, 03/20/2025 - 10:58

Jeriel Jose Rivera-Carrero, driving west in Amagansett last Thursday with his dog in his 2023 GMC truck, rear-ended the car ahead of him, sending its driver to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

Mr. Rivera-Carrero, 40, told East Hampton Town police that the dog had distracted him as he drove along Cranberry Hole Road, and that he did not notice that the car in front, a 2016 Ford with Pablo Gutamabermeo of East Hampton at the wheel, was braking.

Mr. Gutamabermeo, 21, complained of back pain and an Amagansett ambulance was called to transport him to the hospital. Both vehicles sustained some damage, but neither needed towing.
