Blockbuster Summer for the Hamptons Festival Crowd

Fri, 05/24/2019 - 13:07
"Chef Flynn" will conclude the HIFF SummerDocs series in August.

If the increased traffic snarls, green and flowering trees, and occasional temperatures over 60 degrees haven’t been clues that the busy season is nigh, we have the announcement of the Hamptons International Film Festival SummerDocs series to remind us that summer has its benefits.

The series returns for three monthly screenings starting June 29 with “Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind.” July’s film is “Bathtubs Over Broadway” on the 21st and the final film, “Chef Flynn,” will be screened on Aug. 25.

The films will be introduced and discussed after the screenings by Alec Baldwin, who is the co-chairman of the festival, and David Nugent, the festival’s artistic director. The two also select the films each year. Joining them will be the directors and subjects of the films. Screenings will begin at 7 p.m.

The festival will also present a free outdoor movie series at the Southampton Arts Center featuring the films of Steven Spielberg, a part-time East Hampton resident. The Friday screenings will be weekly starting in July and will run through August at 8:30 p.m. Titles include classics such as “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” and “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.” They join his recent films “The Post” and “Ready Player One.”

Tickets for the screenings, which often sell out, and details about the films are available at the Hamptons International Film Festival website.
