“Spotlight” and “Carol” have been selected to be the Hamptons International Film Festival’s Centerpiece films.“Spotlight,” which will be screened on the night of Saturday, Oct. 10, tells the story of a Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation into the Catholic Church’s history of abuse and a coverup of allegations that stretched into the city’s government and legal institutions. Tom McCarthy directed Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, Brian d’Arcy James, and Stanley Tucci in the film, which will open in theaters in November.“Carol,” which will be screened on Sunday, Oct. 11, is a bit of a homegrown film in that its producers include Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, who head the Stony Brook Southampton M.F.A. in film program. Todd Haynes, who has collaborated with Ms. Vachon on several films, including "Far From Heaven," directed the story, which focuses on the relationship of two women in 1950s New York. It was adapted from Patricia Highsmith's "The Price of Salt." Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara star in the film, which will open in theaters in November.More information will be available online beginning Tuesday, and tickets will go on sale Sept. 26 on the festival website and at box offices in East Hampton, Southampton, and New York City.
