A Cloudy Day in Springs, but Perfect for a Stroll

Fri, 05/24/2019 - 13:16
It was a cloudy day on Accabonac Harbor, but it didn't stop those on the tour from enjoying the view from The Landing.

Springs residents, St. Peter's Chapel supporters, and curiosity seekers all gathered in Springs for the Old Stone Stroll, a tour of private gardens, on Saturday.

In addition to the chapel, the tour consisted of seven properties on Old Stone Highway. The proceeds from ticket sales will benefit exterior improvements to the chapel, which was recently restored.

Included was "Willow Hill," whose main house dates back to 1750. A 19th century barn on the property, now a guest house, was imported from Canada board by board by Peter Bickford and Greg McCarthy, its owners. Laurie Anderson opened up her grounds to the tour as did Marcia Previti and Michael Gumpel, who are both architects. Additional stops included the Nivola compound, Charles Savage's grounds, and The Landing, a 12-acre property fronting Accabonac Harbor. The Leiber Museum grounds were also open on the tour.
