Crunch Time for the Hamptons Film Festival

In the midst of announcements for its main event in October, on Sept. 22 the Hamptons International Film Festival will screen a documentary on Jane Fonda by Susan Lacy, a Noyac resident.

The screening of "Jane Fonda in Five Acts," at Guild Hall at 6 p.m., will be followed by a discussion with Ms. Lacy and Alec Baldwin. The documentary is a reflection back on the actress's 80 years of filmmaking and activism, making use of a distillation of 21 hours of interviews. 

The festival has also announced its closing night film, "Boy Erased," directed by Joel Edgerton, which follows Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe as parents who send their son, played by Lucas Hedges, to a refuge to cure his homosexuality. It is based on a memoir by Garrard Conley, who will attend the screening. 

Among the newly announced films of note to be screened are the world premiere of "The Panama Papers," a documentary by Alex Winter;  the U.S. premiere of "Ben Is Back," directed by Peter Hedges and starrring Lucas Hedges and Julia Roberts; "To Dust," directed by Shawn Snyder, with Matthew Broderick and produced by Alessandro Nivola and Emily Mortimer; "Everybody Knows" by Asghar Farhadi, with Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz; "Green Book" by Peter Farrelly; "The Hate U Give" by George Tillman Jr.; "A Private War" by Matthew Heineman, starring Rosamund Pike and Jamie Dornan; "The Public" by Emilio Estevez, and "Wildlife" by Paul Dano, with Carrie Mulligan.

Bob Balaban, Bill Camp, Mr. Dornan, Mr. Estevez, Mr. Hedges, Mr. Heineman, Mr. Broderick, Mr. Nivola, Ms. Pike, Mr. Tillman, and Dolly Wells are set to attend the festival. Three Breakthrough Artists have also been announced. They are Kayli Carter, Cory Michael Smith, and Amandla Stenberg, and all will attend.

This year HIFF opens on Oct. 4 and runs through Oct. 8. Passes and packages are now on sale. The full online film guide will be available on Monday, and individual tickets will go on sale on Sept. 24.
