The Spring Fling at the Parrish Art Museum may have been causing delays on the highway in front of its Water Mill headquarters, but over in East Hampton several gallery exhibitions opening on Saturday night, kept many residents close to home.Ille Arts had an engaging show of word paintings by Matt Vega in Amagansett. They featured poetry, with both legible and more freeform text. It was presented in stark black-and-white and more vibrant color combinations. Mr. Vega studied painting at Boston College and has an M.F.A. in photography from the Yale University School of Art. Down the highway at Crazy Monkey Gallery, Daniel Schoenheimer, a co-director of the cooperative space, and Melissa Hin celebrated the opening of their shared exhibition of his photography and her paintings.Due west and back in the village, Halsey Mckay hosted a Brooklyn-based crowd at the opening of its group show “Still Life with Woodpecker” and a solo show of An Hoang. Up north in Springs, a large and local group took over Ashawagh Hall for the Hampton Photo Arts “Thank You” show where Hailey London, a wellness instructor at the Ross School, was in charge of edibles.
