Ille Arts Holiday Show Both Recaps and Refreshes

    If you are looking for a mini invitational show where small works by familiar artists can be had for reasonable prices, Ille Arts is a good place to visit.

    Sara de Luca's intimate gallery is bursting with drawings, paintings, and sculptures in a show that includes work from artists who showed at the gallery during the year as well as other local and not so local artists of interest. There are also a number of intimate works by artists currently participating in the Artists Choose Artists show at the Parrish Art Museum, such as Virva Hinnemo, Rick Liss, Christine Sciulli and Don Christensen, who is Ms. de Luca's husband.

     While sometimes bigger is better, smaller works often give artists a chance to fill an intimate space with something with much greater impact. In Roisin Bateman's collages, for example, the diminutive support gives her work with color a sizable punch. Other artists already work in smaller sizes or use the intimate spaces to take risks or dispense with the formality of their usual practice.

    The show will be on view through Jan. 15. The Amagansett gallery will take a mid-winter break and then be back again in March, according to Ms. de Luca.
