Norman Canceled at Watermill Center, Gruss to Speak Tuesday

Fri, 05/24/2019 - 13:16
Audrey B. Gruss

The Watermill Center’s summer lecture series will continue this week with a talk by Audrey B. Gruss on depression and creativity on Tuesday evening at 7:30.

Ms. Gruss is replacing Jessye Norman, who was scheduled to speak at the same time but had to cancel her appearance.

Her talk, titled "Depression: The Cancer of the 21st Century," will describe the work of the Hope for Depression Foundation, which she established in 2006 in memory of her mother. The organization funds research into the origins, new treatments, and prevention of this illness.

After Ms. Gruss’s remarks, Jacques Reynaud, a costume designer and long-term collaborator of Robert Wilson, will offer a brief comment on the impact depression has had on creative communities. The program will conclude with a question-and-answer session.

The lecture is free, but reservations are required through Eventbrite.
