Opening the Lens at AIPAD's Photography Show

New York's spring art fair season continues with the Association of International Photography Art Dealer's AIPAD's The Photography Show on view through Sunday at Pier 94 in Manhattan.

There is plenty to see, both very old and new (and new using old techniques and processes).

A few East Enders have shown up as well, including dealers such as Harper Levine, whose bustling booth of glass display cases shows to great advantage his inventory of art books and monographs.

Gary Edwards, a dealer who recently moved to Southampton from Washington, D.C.,specializes in early photography from the 1850s including salt prints and callotypes. He said he will show work by appointment while he considers whether to have a South Fork gallery space.

John Messinger, a former Ross School student and art instructor, has an exterior display wall devoted to one of his multiple Polaroid abstractions at the UNIX gallery booth.

Also apparent on the walls and in the various nooks and crannies of the 96 dealers were works by Mary Ellen Bartley at Yancey Richardson, Adam Bartos at Gitterman, Peter Beard at Contemporary Works/Vintage Works, Jean Paglioso at Mary Ryan, and Priscilla Rattazz at Staley Wise.

The fair is open until 8 p.m. today and from noon to 6 tomorrow.
