Finding a break between late-winter storms, Guild Hall celebrated its annual Academy of the Arts dinner at the Rainbow Room in New York City on Monday night.

Enjoying drop-dead Manhattan views and the musical stylings of Audrey Flack’s History of Art bluegrass band and G.E. Smith, some 245 guests also witnessed the award presentations to this year’s recipients, Harris Yulin for performing arts, Gail Sheehy for literary arts, and Ms. Flack for visual arts. Sheri Sandler received an award for leadership.

Alec Baldwin presented Mr. Yulin’s award. Tom Wolfe, a fellow “new journalist” from the early days of New York magazine, gave Ms. Sheehy hers. David Brigham, the president and chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, handed out Ms. Flack’s award. Ms. Sandler received hers from Andrea Grover, the director of Guild Hall.

Serving as hosts were Eric Fischl, the academy president, and Iris Smyles, a writer and former Guild House artist in residence, an appointment chosen by members of the academy.

The evening raised close to half a million dollars for Guild Hall’s programs.
