Those who managed to, considered themselves lucky to get on the limited reservation lists for the Parrish Road Show reception and talk for “ENCOUNTER” and “LOVE,” two environmentally based installations by Saskia Friedrich, an artist who works primarily in fabric.Based in Sagaponack, Ms. Friedrich has worked on the pieces since last fall, and she and Andrea Grover, a curator at the Parrish Art Museum, spent much of the time in between trying to find a site willing to host them that also made sense for the work. The Victor D’Amico Art Institute or Art Barge, fit the bill, and for two brief hours on Aug. 22 and Aug. 26, “LOVE,” a 72-foot long fabric piece, floated off of the bay side of the Napeague Stretch. “ENCOUNTER,” her other work, will remain on view through Aug. 31.An article describing the installation and the process leading up to it was published in the Aug. 27 issue of The Star.
