Matt Maya, an East Hampton High School senior, broke the school’s 400 intermediate hurdles record at Hewlett High School’s Bulldog Invitational Saturday, placing second in 57.61 seconds. Joe Quigley had held the record, which he set in 2008, at 58.60.

Further, according to East Hampton’s coach, Ben Turnbull, Maya ran a personal best 23.09 in the 200-meter dash, placing ninth over all.

East Hampton’s girls team, whose coach is Yani Cuesta, was to have competed in the division meet Monday and yesterday at Ward Melville High School. The boys divisional meet was to have begun at Mount Sinai High Tuesday, and is to end today.
