A large crowd showed up Sunday to run and walk in the 28th Ellen’s Run at Southampton’s Intermediate School, a 5K that benefited the Ellen P. Hermanson Foundation’s breast cancer prevention, treatment, and research efforts.

There were 680 finishers, and at least 720 registrants, the foundation’s founder — and the late Ellen Hermanson’s sister — Julie Ratner, said.

Sergey Avramenko, a 38-year-old Uber driver who lives in Hampton Bays, a frequent winner of local road races, topped the field in 15 minutes and 38.79 seconds, presumably his best 5K time this summer. Erik Engstrom, 25, an East Hamptoner and former county cross-country champion, was the runner-up, in 16:44.55. Andrea Sankari, 44, was the women’s winner, and 14th over all, in 20:54.85.

There were at least 20 breast cancer survivors, said Ratner. “It was wonderful,” she continued. “Our 30 or so volunteers all did their part. We had babies in strollers, dogs running alongside their owners, and even a 93-year-old" — Robert Goldfarb — “who said he’d been doing the race for years.”
