“My wife and I live in North Sea and we’ve got 4 and 6-year-old children who are schooled in Southampton. That was one consideration,” said White. “The other was the fact that Will Fujita, Pierson’s coach, recently left to take a teaching job at Southold.”
The decision to leave East Hampton was not an easy one to make, said White. “It’s a great job and the future is bright given the talented incoming sophomores. There may be some growing pains initially, but East Hampton basketball is on the rise.” He spoke with his incoming seniors, Liam Fowkes and Mike Locascio, “and they said they understood why I was making the move.”
As for his replacement, White said he was sure the job could be ably filled “in-house.”
Kathy Masterson, the East Hampton School District’s athletic director, said she had “a couple of irons in the fire” as to a possible successor. Her recommendation, she added, would have to be approved by the East Hampton School Board, which was to have met Tuesday night.
