The East Hampton High School boys basketball season is to begin in earnest Friday with the Kendall Madison Tip-Off tournament here. Bridgehampton, Shelter Island, and the Ross School are the other teams contending.
Bridgehampton, which in Alex Davis and Jai Feaster has two Newsday Top 100 players, is to go up against the Ross School at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by East Hampton and Shelter Island at 6. The consolation game is to be played at noon on Saturday, with the championship game set for 2.
The $5 admission will support the scholarship in Kendall Madison’s name.
East Hampton High’s girls basketball team was to have opened the season with Port Jefferson here Monday. The team “is aiming for a season of continued development and success,” according to its coach, Samantha James.
“We have a strong roster and good chemistry,” James said in a preseason report. “Susie DiSunno, a forward, and Julia Kuneth, a guard, are returning seniors. They’ll be matched with a talented core of junior returnees — Gizel Espinal, Brynley Lys, Ana McCormack, Kaili Moore, Lydia Rowan, and Saffron Zeff — and an experienced sophomore in Brenda Avila. Up from the junior varsity are Olivia Dodge, Colleen McKee, Maya Taveras, and Melanie Vizcaino, who are all juniors. . . . The team is poised for a season filled with growth, determination, and teamwork.”
