Dylan Cashin, an East Hampton High School senior who is to attend the United States Naval Academy in the fall, set a school record Friday as she finished third in the 1,500-meter racewalk in 6 minutes and 57.65 seconds. The old record, of 7:14.82, was held by Nina Piacentine, a 2016 graduate. Cashin's performance was all the more notable for the fact that she began racewalking this season, to earn points for the team.

Finishing ahead of her were two Sachem East competitors, Gianna Mauri, in 6:36.00, and Abbigail Callinan, in 6:55.02.

Yani Cuesta, East Hampton's coach, took 10 of her charges to the state qualifier. Alex Kolhoff placed third in the high jump, at 5 feet; KK Moore was seventh in the shot-put, with a personal best heave of 34 feet 5 inches; Sara O'Brien was eighth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles; Greylynn Guyer was ninth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, and O'Brien, despite a fall in the last lap, was 11th in that event.

As the result of their third-place finishes, Cashin and Kolhoff, who "only started jumping in our last meets of the season," were accorded all-county status.
