Runners will take to the streets of Southampton Village on Saturday for the 18th annual Hamptons Marathon, which will both start and end at Southampton Intermediate School on Leland Lane. Race time is 7:30 a.m. for the 26.2-mile full course and 13.1-mile half, and 7:45 for the 5K run. A marathon course designed for wheelchair athletes kicks off at 7:25 a.m., with a 5K wheelchair race set to start at 7:40.

According to the marathon’s website, the course promises “some of the most beautiful terrain on Long Island’s East End,” from wooded lanes to beaches along the “flat and fast” course. Runners World magazine has called the Hamptons Marathon a “bucket list must-do.”

From the starting point, runners of the full marathon will travel down Old Town Road, past Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and on side streets over to Meadow Lane past Cooper’s Beach. The course then stretches as far west as Shinnecock East County Park, then back east past Gin Beach and Lake Agawam. Overlapping routes covering parts of that pathway are designated for the half-marathon and 5K run.

Police officers will be stationed at certain intersections to maintain safety, as roadways will not be fully closed to vehicle traffic. Most competitors are expected to finish by 1:30 p.m.
