Sunday is to be Katy’s Courage Day at the Buckskill Winter Club, an all-day fund-raiser for the Katy’s Courage Foundation that Brigid and Jim Stewart established in 2012 in memory of their “kind and courageous” daughter, Katy, who died of a rare form of liver cancer at the age of 12.
Buckskill’s owners, Kathryn and Doug DeGroot, have given over their East Hampton clubhouse and outdoor ice rink to this daylong event since then. More than $11,000 was raised last year, helping to underwrite the foundation’s work, which includes donations to pediatric cancer research, scholarship awards to high school seniors here, and donations to the Katy’s Kids center for grieving children at the Children’s Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton.
The 8 a.m.-to-9 p.m. event, according to a flier, will include public skating, hockey games, a puck throw, curling, and an ice show at 6 p.m. with some of Buckskill’s young figure-skating students, their instructors, and professional ice dancers from the Ice Theatre of New York.
There will also be a silent auction and “great prizes” that have been donated by, among other businesses, Estia’s Little Kitchen, the 1770 House, the American Hotel, Townline BBQ, Cittanuova, the Corner Bar, the Kidd Squid Brewing Company, the Montauk Brewery, Jack’s Coffee, the Hampton Coffee Company, 27 Spa, BookHampton, Aviator Nation, Annabel the Shop, and the Buckskill Tennis Club.
