The East Hampton Village Board decided last Thursday to appoint a new mayor to fill out the term of Mayor Paul F. Rickenbach Jr., whose resignation took effect on Dec. 31. The board will vote on an appointment at its next meeting on Friday, Jan. 17, and will then grapple with the question of whether to also appoint someone to fill the vacancy on the board.
Barbara Borsack, a member of the East Hampton Village Board who is running for village mayor in 2020, held a kickoff party for her campaign on Sunday at the home of Ina Garten, the celebrity chef and cookbook author.
Barbara Borsack, who became the first woman elected to the East Hampton Village Board in 2000, is hoping to be the first woman elected village mayor in 2020.
