Confirmed Cases of Covid-19 Increase by Almost 900

Sat, 04/25/2020 - 16:23

Update: As of 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, there were 934 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Suffolk County in the previous 24 hours. There have been 32,454 confirmed cases since March 18.

In the past 24 hours, 891 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Suffolk County, marking a modest decline from the surprising spike of 1,039 cases reported on Friday, according to county officials. There have been 49 more deaths caused by the virus, bringing the county total to 1,042.

The total number of people hospitalized, however, fell by 143, with 147 patients discharged from hospitals, said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone on Saturday. The decrease in hospitalizations, he said, is a "huge number." He noted that the field hospital built at Stony Brook University currently remains empty, a sign that social distancing and other measures are helping to save lives.

"What we are doing is having an impact," he said.
