Wed, 07/26/2023 - 18:20

Edison I. Bolivar and Maria Camila Alvarez Franco were married on April 30 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Hampton. Town Justice Steven Tekulsky officiated.

Mr. Bolivar is the son of Luz Mery Mesa and Jose Bolivar of Montauk. His wife’s parents are Maria Helena Franco Hernandez and German Alvarez Ramirez of Pereira, Colombia.

The couple met when Mr. Bolivar was in Pereira for minor surgery in October 2020 after the Colombian airports were reopened for international travel during the pandemic. He “asked her out before surgery, and after surgery she helped [him] to recover,” he wrote. They kept in touch after he flew back to New York, and became a couple that December when he returned to Colombia.

Mr. Bolivar, whose family moved to Montauk in 1986, graduated from the Montauk School in 1996 and from East Hampton High School four years later. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in public justice from the State University at Oswego in 2004 and a juris doctor degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego 2012. He is an attorney with a law office in Bridgehampton.

The bride attended high school and college in Pereira.

Their wedding was originally planned as a nonreligious ceremony at a private residence in Bridgehampton, but was moved to St. Luke’s because of rain. The bride’s son, Simon Henao Alvarez, was the ring bearer. The couple will take their honeymoon after the summer.
