They Met and Married on the Beach

Thu, 10/03/2024 - 01:56

Emilie Erica Stoll and Jean Carlo Barrientos, who were married on Friday at Navy Beach in Montauk, still remember the exact date they met: July 23, 2014. They had both finished their freshman years at college. He was an ocean lifeguard at Ditch Plain Beach in Montauk that summer and she catered for the now-defunct Hampton Seafood Company in East Hampton. They were at the beach.

“He was surfing the hurricane swell at Napeague that evening while she was going for a sunset dip,” they wrote. “He came up to her as she was walking back towards the parking lot and asked her name, and the rest is history.”

Six of their years together were long-distance between Connecticut and Syracuse and then New York City and Syracuse. Ms. Stoll Barrientos, who studied dance at Connecticut College, is the head of outreach and marketing at Done & Done Home. Mr. Barrientos earned his bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. A landscape designer, he owns J. Barrientos Design.

The couple, who now live in Manhattan, were married by Robert Shwartz. A waterside reception at Navy Beach followed.

The bride’s parents are Rand Stoll of Amagansett and Veronique Perrin of Manhattan. The groom is a son of Emma and Julio Barrientos of East Hampton.

Mr. Barrientos’s best man was his younger brother, Christian Barrientos of Colorado.

The bride wore a dress from Sarah Seven with powder blue shoes by Loeffler Randall. Her maids of honor, wearing shades of blue and carrying dahlias, were her best friends for 20 years, Marisa Shwartz, Sophie Furman, and Sarah Irwin, all of New York City. Her brother, Benjamin Stoll, read “How Falling in Love Is Like Owning a Dog” by Taylor Mali, and close friends and family gave seven blessings during the ceremony.

The flower girl was a 12-year-old Merle Great Dane, Bella, and the ringbearer was Cody, a 12-year-old golden retriever.

The bride will now go by Emilie Stoll Barrientos.

The couple are set to leave today for a honeymoon in Italy, where they will visit Lake Garda, Verona, Venice, Florence, and Rome.
