Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has deployed additional parks and state police officers to Montauk to increase enforcement of social distancing.

East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc announced on Saturday that "New York State Parks police attention is on Montauk" after he had voiced concerns about the number of visitors to state parks within the town.

Theresa Santoro, a regional representative for Governor Cuomo, said the officers have begun enforcing social distancing, limiting visitors, and closing the parks when they reach a certain capacity. Officers will also be working increased hours to address the crowds in Montauk, she added.

Mr. Van Scoyoc lauded the arrival of the additional police resources. "As spring weather continues drawing people outdoors to use park lands and beaches, town officials will be implementing additional measures as needed to reduce risk and insure compliance with social distancing and other mandates," he said in a statement.
