Matheson and Forde to Wed

Frank and Denise Forde of Springs have announced the engagement of their daughter Whitney Forde to Nicholas Matheson, the son of Howie and Rosanne Matheson of Southport, N.C. The Mathesons are former East Hampton residents, having lived here for 30 years.

Ms. Forde and Mr. Matheson attended East Hampton High School and now live in Stamford, Conn. After graduation, Ms. Forde earned a degree in kinesiology from the State University at Cortland, and then a second bachelor’s degree in nursing from Pace University. She is a pediatric intensive care nurse at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in New York City.

Mr. Matheson attended the Merchant Marine Academy, graduating with a degree in marine transportation with a focus on logistics. He works as a ship broker at Odin Marine Group in Southport, Conn.

A fall wedding is planned.

Ultra Runners Tackle Grand Canyon

In October, Craig Berkoski and Andrew Drake ran a legendary Grand Canyon route known as a "rite of passage" for ultra runners. The so-called Rim to Rim to Rim trail involves descending 4,500 feet down the South Rim, crossing the canyon floor and the Colorado River, and then running up the nearly 8,000-foot North Rim, and back.

Called Shelter Island Experience, it’s a card game that showcases the “nuances of what makes life on Shelter Island so special and unique.”
