Joe Bloecker, a member of the Montauk Friends of Erin for over 30 years and its president for 10, has been chosen to lead the group’s 2025 St. Patrick’s Day Parade as grand marshal. Mr. Bloecker’s “involvement with the club and his contributions to the Montauk community run deep,” the group said in its announcement.

Mr. Bloecker has served as an East Hampton Town Trustee, vice president of the East Hampton Town Republican Committee, and co-chairman of the town’s cancer task force, and was a founding member of the town’s nature preserve committee. “In addition, Joe has coached generations of Montauk's youth in the 37 years he has volunteered his time to serve as a Little League coach,” the Friends of Erin said. “As Joe’s dedication to the Montauk Friends of Erin, and to giving back to the Montauk community are unmatched,” his selection as grand marshal “is well deserved, and has been a long time in the making.”

The 63rd Montauk Friends of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on March 30 at noon. Mr. Bloecker will be celebrated in advance on March 28, at a lunch at the Montauk Downs, followed the next day by a cocktail party at Gurney’s. Tickets for the lunch, which, like the cocktail party, often sells out in advance, can be had by calling 631-235-3991 or 631-848-2368.

A Newsletter on Being a Jew in Today’s America

One of the essential roles of religion, Rabbi Jan Uhrbach of the Bridge Shul in Bridgehampton said this week, is to “help us hold onto our humanity, and remind us of the higher values that go beyond money and power and position and all of those things, in a time when the values that I hold dear are not only being violated, they’re being rejected as values.”

Hemerocallis may be an unfamiliar term, but the garden adjacent to Clinton Academy once bore the name. This photo shows the gate to the garden some two decades after its establishment in 1941.
