East Hampton Town police charged a 54-year-old man with felony assault Friday night after he reportedly shoved his 74-year-old uncle to the ground, causing a cut on the back of his head.

Detective Sgt. Dan Toia said Peter C. Savasta of the Bronx and his uncle, whose name was not released by police because the matter is classified as a domestic dispute, were arguing in Mr. Savasta’s house on Pine Street at around 7:35 p.m. Mr. Savasta said his uncle slapped him, and then he pushed him. The older man was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he received five staples for the laceration on the back of his head.

Mr. Savasta was charged with assault in the second degree for causing an injury to a victim older than 65, when the aggressor is at least 10 years younger. He was held overnight and arraigned in East Hampton Town Justice Court on Saturday. Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on his own recognizance.
