Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has instituted limitations on restaurants, houses of worship, and schools in Riverhead and Hampton Bays, the two East End communities that crossed a line on Monday into higher Covid-19 infection rates.
The Pike food truck at the Corwith Farmstand in Water Mill has a Thanksgiving menu of appetizers, soups, entrees, side dishes, and desserts. Appetizers offered by the dozen include pigs in a blanket for $14.50, barbecue pulled pork quesadillas for $18.95, and curried tuna cakes with mango salsa for $12.50. The entrees offered by the pound include citrus glazed ham for $14.99, herbed-rubbed turkey for $16.99, blackened sea bass for $17.99, and Cajun roasted pork tenderloin for $22.99.
Parts of Suffolk County are on track this week to become a yellow micro-cluster zone according to New York State’s Covid-19 focus area system. In a yellow zone, mass gatherings, both indoors and outdoors, would be limited to 25 people, houses of worship are limited to 50 percent capacity, and there would be a four-person limit at tables in both indoor and outdoor dining.
A new case of Covid-19 diagnosed in a fourth-grade student at the John M. Marshall Elementary School has led the East Hampton School District administration to close that school to in-person classes for the two days leading up to the Thanksgiving break next week.
While many holiday traditions may be curtailed in light of Covid, the Riverhead Holiday Light Show promises to be as bright as ever. The largest drive-through light show in Suffolk County opened on Thursday.
With coronavirus infection rates far higher in Hampton Bays and Riverhead than in other parts of Suffolk County, the county is increasing the number of testing sites in those communities to understand why, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said on Thursday.
Robert S. Schaeffer, a former member and vice chairman of the East Hampton Town Planning Board and a former editor at The East Hampton Star, died Tuesday morning at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital following a long illness. Mr. Schaeffer was 76. An obituary will appear in a future issue.
The Star had word this week of the death of Janet Zobel of Amagansett and Greenwich Village, on June 29 at N.Y.U. Medical Center in Manhattan. She was 78 and had been given a diagnosis of primary peritoneal cancer five years ago, although she was in remission until this year.
The activist group Progressive East End Reformers has set Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. as a tentative date to mobilize to support President-elect Joe Biden's apparent Electoral College victory. The group's gathering would take place at the Bridgehampton Community House.
The count of absentee ballots sent by voters in New York's First Congressional District is expected to begin Thursday, an official at the Suffolk County Board of Elections said on Tuesday.
