East Hampton Town police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man they say stole a wallet and a cellphone from a customer at the Speedway gas station on Montauk Highway in Wainscott on Jan. 14.

A white male in his early to mid-30s, wearing dark jeans and a two-toned shirt or jacket over a blue shirt, bought a 12-pack of Busch beer and a tin of Skoal tobacco at the gas station, according to police. In an apparent crime of opportunity, he then stole another customer's belongings on his way out.

The man was seen getting into a light-colored pickup truck and driving off. He is wanted on a charge of grand larceny.

Police have shared two images of the incident and have asked that anyone with knowledge of the suspect or what happened call them at 631-537-7575.
