The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill will screen “Four American Composers: John Cage” tomorrow at 6 p.m. An excerpt from Peter Greenaway’s 1983 documentary “Four American Composers,” it profiles the avant-garde composer, writer, and artist whose influence has been felt in the visual arts and dance, as well as by composers and musicians ranging from Stockhausen to Morton Feldman to Philip Glass to Frank Zappa.

The film creates a portrait of Cage through footage of a series of musical performances commemorating his 70th birthday and interviews with the composer. His interest in linguistics and philosophy and his training as a painter are also explored.

Carter Burwell, a contemporary composer, will introduce the film, and Laura Kuhn, executive director of the John Cage Trust, will speak after the screening. Tickets to the program, which is co-presented with the Watermill Center, are $10, free for members, students, and children.
