ARF Transforms Its Thrift Shop Into a Designer Showcase

Fri, 05/24/2019 - 08:16
Some of this year’s Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons showhouse designers posed on the steps of the thrift store in Sagaponack last week.

The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons will continue its tradition of opening up the South Fork high season with a benefit cocktail party and sale Saturday at its Thrift and Treasure Shop in Sagaponack.

The party will celebrate the store’s transformation into a mini-showhouse featuring the creative design work of Allison Babcock and Cristina Peffer of Babcock Peffer Design, Groundworks Landscaping, Patricia McGrath Design, Michael Murray of Rachael Ray Home with Tim Croneberger of Halcyon Design and Robin Theismann, Alex Papachristidis Interiors, Roller Rabbit, Laura Sanatore of LMS Design, and Anastasia Casale of Sag Harbor Florist.

The space will be divided into seven interior rooms and one outdoor space. All of the designers are also animal lovers and are donating their time as well as pieces from their own collections. These will be incorporated into the mix of objects from the store that the designers will include in their overall scheme. Every item in the space will be for sale.

The individual rooms will have themes such as “Animal Kingdom,” “The Backyard Is Back,” “Tangled Up in Blue,” “Refined Rustic,” and more. Special guests will include a number of ARF resident cats and dogs that are available for adoption. Football fans may be interested to know that the furniture used in the design for the barn was donated from the home of Ms. Theismann and her husband, Joe Theismann, a former Washington Redskins quarterback, and will be signed and authenticated by Mr. Theismann.

The party will have two price points, one, a preview hour at 5 p.m. for $250 and the regular cocktail party beginning at 6 for $150. Although everyone at the parties will be able to purchase objects then, they will remain installed in the shop through the weekend so that visitors coming on Sunday and Monday will be able to see the designers’ full vision. General admission on those days will be by a suggested donation of $10. Almost 10 percent of ARF’s annual operating budget comes from money raised by the Thrift Shop.

In addition to the opportunity to shop early, the party will be catered by Fig & Pig with wines donated by Kontokosta Winery.
